For breakfast, my daughters heated up the fried fish and hot sauce my Somali sisters had made for me yesterday. Then N brought me a cup of milk, whole milk, to be precise. I asked for another. She bounded downstairs and came back with another cup.
Apparently hubby had told them to 'help me'.
At lunch time, I explained to them the situation.
"I need your help. The baby needs your help."
N vaccummed the living room, even though I insisted she didn't have to do so right there and then. Afterwards she brought me another cup of whole milk. I was reminded of their mantra, "So the baby will be chubby like N."
At dinner time, while we were preparing the food, N took out the half gallon milk bottle and poured a cup of whole milk. She gave it to me. I thanked her. I downed it. She gave me another one and said,
"So the baby'll be white."
I said to hubby, "N's feeding the baby. She's on a mission."
May her hopes not be dashed, again. Ameen.
