"Ummi, there's a tarantula on Abi's pants on the red chair in your room," said S.
Inwardly I began to think of how obsessed she is with tarantulas. The kids have been saying they had seen tarantulas in my room for days now. At first I had taken it seriously but one day I found a rubber spider lying at the bottom of the stairs, and immediately concluded that that was what the kids had probably seen. So I asked her,
"Ok, now tell me how big it is," my face took on a biased disbelieving look.
"This big," she said, putting her index finger and thumb together.
Ok so maybe it's not the big rubber spider, I thought. My face probably changed from taunting disbelief to confused and worried.
"It's red and black," she added.
"Is it a black widow?" I asked, alarmed, while H started to chant and chatter about how poisonous it is.
"Well, it's hairy. Black with red smudges," S said.
My brows knitted in a confused frown. I don't know what to make of it. I'm opposed to eradicating spiders because they help eradicate other bugs in the house. I keep thinking about the spider in the cave that helped deceive the mushrikoon.
There I was standing with a confused and worried expression, thinking how can I go to bed knowing there's a hairy black and red spider lurking around. Thoughts of rotting limbs flashed in my head. Suddenly a chirpy voice cleaved my swirling thoughts,
"Go to Google!" H said, in as cheerful a manner as possible, dimple flashing and a proud expression pasted on his face. Apparently he had come up with a solution for his poor confused mother!
