H has started to pray with us. At first it was merely a suggestion by hubby. H didn't respond. As he was sitting sipping his milk in the kitchen, I said to him,
"H, hurry up. Tomorrow we're gonna play tennis after Fajr, and then go straigh to Home Depot for the free workshop, so you need to sleep early."
Immediately his eyes lit up, and he nodded vigorously.
"Ok, I'll go pray," he added.
He actually did Maghrib with us. Today, I told him,
"H go brush your teeth and go potty."
"But I'm gonna pray," he replied.
I was a little taken aback that he insisted, but I happily obliged. He put on his thawb and prayed with us. I practiced surah Yusuf, and I noticed S slacking a bit after a while. H and N remained still throughout and I shortened the break up of the ayats (I never got that far in the first place anyway).
Earlier in the day, N suddenly piped up,
"Alif Laaaaam Raa."
Apparently my contstant rewinding of Sa'ad Ghamidee's recitation of Surah Yusuf had gotten to them, especially N, who picks up on audios really quickly. So it was little wonder that they remained still when I read it during salat, though S began to move a little bit restlessly.
These kids might even memorize the surah before I do.

the last surah i memorised was surah luqman. after reading ur entry hari tuh, i re-audit la. sooo much work to be done. tsk tsk...
i really must pick up how u teach the kids. cos they turn up so good. i want my nephews and nieces to be as good too!
elsa, masyaallah, surah luqman.
One important thing regarding the kids: DUa. I recommend you listen to Yasir Qadhi's Dua weapon of thebeliever. Here's the link: scroll all the way down until you see a set of lectures called dua weapon of the believer.

Another important thing: the parent has to walk the talk so the kids will take the walk with him/her. :) That, and dua, insyaallah Allah will take care of the rest.
