Can't Catch Up!

She's almost as tall as me, though H keeps saying,

"S's taller than you!"

Whenever I read something, she eyes it. I was reading 'How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk' when she caught sight of the comics illustration in it. Before long, I found her sitting on the couch reading the book. As usual, I have more than one books splayed on the couch, my side activity while nursing Baby Z. The two books I had taken out were 'Pushed' and 'A Child in the Jungle'.

It's also a habit of mine to bring the books with me when we go out, even when we go grocery shopping. I never read them, well, sometimes I do, but most of the time, it's just out of habit that I lug the books along. While they were helping me get the diaper bag in the van, they saw 'Pushed', and N asked me,

"What's that book about, Ummi?"

"Oh, it's about people having babies," I said.

Yesterday, S saw me reading 'Soft Spoken Parenting' while nursing Baby Z. I noticed her eyeing it.

Today, while I was crocheting and nursing Baby Z (yes, I have acquired the true skill of multitasking now), she picked up 'Child of the Jungle' and before we knew it, she was lost in the faraway jungle of West Papua, in someone's memoir.

I can't catch up! Children, they grow up too fast. Now, if only I can hold to Baby Z's coos, slobbery fists, toothless grins, and an attempt to say 'Ummi' a little bit longer...
