S is my right hand man. She gives Baby Z a bath. She changes his diapers. She puts him to sleep. In fact, she has been putting Baby Z down for his nap ever since he was a month old. She could do it better than me, because with me, Baby Z will always look for a feeding even when he's more sleepy than hungry. With S, he falls asleep, mostly on her chest.
"He's sleeping?" I would ask disbelievingly, when S would come out of my room after putting him to sleep.
S would nod.
One evening, while waiting for hubby to come home, the girls and I were crocheting on the couch, while H played with Baby Z on the floor. Suddenly, H called out to me,
"Ummi, he's wet over here!" showing me two wet ping pong ball-sized spots on Baby Z's bottom.
Befuddled, I stared at it, trying to figure out if it was urine. It didn't seem to come out from any of the usual leakage point, which would be the sides of his waist. The spots were on his bottom where the diaper would have been covering.
"Do you want me to check it?" asked H.
I gave him the green light and he proceeded to unbutton his brother's onesie.
"Look!" H uttered, and all our eyes laid upon the most unbelievable sight of the day.
My jaw must have hit the couch with a thud.
Cooing and chuckling, Baby Z lay face down on H's lap while his left bottom greet us with a cheeky 'hello'. The diaper had come undone on one side, exposing one cheek, and opening the flood gate at the same time.
The minutes that followed were full of uncontrollable laughter and Baby Z's chuckles.
"S, you didn't put his diaper on properly," I said, still laughing.
"Yes, I did!" she insisted, still laughing too.
"Well, he must have tried to open it as usual, and you buttoned him up without fixing it," I said.
Meanwhile, Baby Z cooed and babbled away.
"Oh! Oh! get the camera!" I exclaimed.
'Oh no, the battery's low," I uttered, as I remembered that I had forgotten to recharge it.
Well, my right hand 'girl' is not without flaws, but I'll take those flaws if the lead to incidents like this. Now, if only she could also nurse him...
